About Me

INFP is for Introverted Feeling (dominant), Extroverted iNtuitive (auxiliary)

For INFPs the dominant quality in their lives is a deep-felt caring and idealism about people. They experience this intense caring most often in their relationships with others, but they may also experience it around ideas, projects, or any involvement they see as important. INFPs are often skilled communicators, and they are naturally drawn to ideas that embody a concern for human potential. INFPs live in the inner world of values and ideals, but what people often first encounter with the INFP in the outer world is their adaptability and concern for possibilities.

You see – all through my professional career I felt out of place. In fact, I kind of felt out of place my whole life. (INFPs are about 4% of the population) My managers didn’t quite know how to manage me. During a graduate course in Career Counseling I took the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and truly unlocked my personality preferences and my own clarity. While most people experience the outside world through their senses, I spend my time in the world of my ideas and values inside. Don Quixote is my patron Saint. I love to interact with people in small groups, and I have taught to a room of over 1,000. I love to help people become clear about who they are, and become more of who they want to be. I decided to spend my working time based on the strengths I have, and being an INFP is the foundation of those strengths. I believe if you show up with all of your gifts you have already won.

The path I took …

The path I took to get to today was always meant to be. At least that’s a major part of my philosophy. My “social self” is pretty well outlined in my LinkedIn Profile. In summary, I found my IBM job through square dancing, finished my college degree while working full time, and stayed at IBM for a full 30 years. I don’t doubt that my generation will be the last to do that. After IBM, I needed to do something different. With the best of the talents I could bring from my time at IBM, I used the MBTI and Clifton StrengthsFinder to get clarity and committed myself to Leadership and Team Coaching. Of course, helping people be the best they can be comes right from my Jungian Type preference. I put my top 10 talent themes from StrengthsFinder on another page.

Some other things I believe

  • We are all connected, even to the people we don’t like or admire. It’s important to “love your neighbor as yourself”, because your neighbor IS yourself.
  • Those people that irritate us are reflections of things we don’t like about ourselves. (see The Work of Byron Katie)
  • The universe puts the same situation in front of us until we learn the lesson we need to know. We must learn the lesson before we can move on if it takes a day, a year, or a lifetime.
  • People think the situation creates the emotion when it’s really the other way around.
  • Forgiveness is the greatest gift you can give because it heals the receiver and the giver.
